Ex-Jehovah's Witness
support group information
Why do
Ex-Jehovah's Witnesses need support groups? People
change religions every day, Catholics become
Baptist, Baptist become Catholics etc. we could
replace Baptist or Catholic with the name of just
about any other religion, the list is endless. These
people make the change without the aid of a support
group why is leaving the Jehovah's Witnesses
religion any different?
Leaving the
Jehovah's Witnesses organization has a devastating
effect because the individual's entire religious,
family and social life are rooted in the
religion. Jehovah's Witnesses are not allowed to
make close friends outside their religion so in leaving
they lose all of their friends including family
members who are Jehovah's Witnesses, no Jehovah's
Witness will even speak a word to them. I have
walked past Jehovah's Witnesses that were close
friends for years before I left and they even
refused to make eye contact. Keep in mind Jehovah’s
Witnesses who leave are no longer part of the
Watchtower Society and have, therefore, lost all
hope of the salvation the Watchtower Bible and Tract
Society teaches, the only salvation they know.
Most Jehovah's
Witnesses leave, especially those who are disfellowshipped thinking they have left God’s only
true religion and they think there is no place to go
for spiritual nourishment. After years of being told
that all religions except for Jehovah's Witnesses
are from Satan, it is almost impossible to make
oneself walk into a church. Nearly every
Ex-Jehovah’s Witness spends months if not years
“wandering in the wilderness”. Support groups help
ex-Jehovah's Witnesses through this period of time
by putting them in contact with others that have
been or are going through the same trials.
